It is Memorial Day, and that means so many things to so many people, gratitude, bar-b-ques, family time and remembrance. I want to remind you about Cards For Heroes, the non-profit group whose mission is to support our nation’s armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. Providing these blank cards gives our troops the opportunity to communicate with home and whatever help and support that you can provide is really needed! This is the page that answers any questions about shipping that you may have: Ship to Cards for Heroes. Please take up the call and send in cards, they are all appreciated!

To express our gratitude for the service people who have made our freedom possible, we are going to do a give away! We have a few projects to share, and then just leave us a comment about what Memorial Day means to you, and we will randomly pick a winner to receive a “We Remember” set from the Rummage Bin Collection and a “Flying Bald Eagle” from the Saturday Evening Post Collection.

Lisa Silver created this beautiful ATC frame project, and she also shared a tutorial on how to do one yourself.

Lisa also created this wonderful card.

I created this card with the Saturday Evening Post “Flying Bald Eagle” and “Giving Thanks for You”. It is for my dad, he is very mindful of his friends he served with, and those who are sacrificing everyday, and I wanted him to know how grateful I was for where he had been and who it has made him.

So leave us comment about what today is about for you, family, freedom, fun in the sun…
It is why we are all so lucky to live in America!
You have until tomorrow at noon, then we will announce a winner!
Happy Stamping on Memorial Day!

I served almost 8 years and my husband just retired after 20 years of service in the Army. Today reminds us of our friends that we served with that are no longer here and all of those who sacrificed that we never knew. How lucky we are to live in America!

Today reminds me about all of our wonderful freedoms. Yes, the media dotes on all the economic doom and gloom, but when you read about the poverty, war and inhumane atrocities going on in other countries, our crisis in the US seems minimal. And, we have our brave veterans and current enlisted folks who sacrifice to give us these freedoms. And, to them, I am eternally grateful.

It’s amazing how much more focused I am on the Memorial part of Memorial Day this year… I have to say, the Cards for Heroes bloghop was an eye opening and wonderful experience… I cried at some of the posts, and got so much inspiration from several of the blog artists… Lots of gorgeous work!

For me Memorial Day is a day to remember those that have served our country and those that have passed. My father was a Marine in the Korean War… Yet, he died at the age of 55 from cancer…long after his service years. He was my hero. My kids and husband never got to meet him.. I am grateful for the time we did get to spend together… and I always think of him on this day…

And I am very thankful to all the families that have service men and women that have served, are serving and that have died for our freedoms…. It’s humbling…

Memorial day means family, planting, grilling out. I have a much younger brother serving in the special forces so I think of him today and pray he comes home safe. I also think of my father in law who served and our grandfathers who served in the war as well.

Memorial day is the start of summer, not that you can tell by the weather in my area. I agree with Andi, the CFH bloghop was a real eye opener, I made a few ‘any hero’ cards and went through others that were sitting in my stash waiting for a good home and I can’t think of a better one than in families of those who are serving the country.

Memorial Day is remembering – both those who served and are serving, but also the reason WHY they do what they do. Because they believe in something more. Something more than just themselves or their families. They believe in America – what it stood for and what it can stand for again – real truth, real courage, and real bravery.

It’s a great time to honor my Grandfather who served in the Korean War and other veterans who have touched my life. It’s also a wonderful reason to have a big family get together.

Memorial Day to me has always been a time to remember and be thankful to all those men and women who have sacrificed their time and their lives to keep America Free. We usually celebrate that freedom with a family picnic.

Memorial day to me has meant honoring, respecting & remembering our brave Veterans & all of our brave military men & women who are currently serving our country. It’s a day of gratitude.

I live in Canada so we do not celebrate Memorial Day but instead Remembrance Day in November. I think it is an important time to help remind us of the sacrifice being made now and in the past to make our countries the place where we can enjoy so many freedoms and rights.

Memorial day is a special day for veterans and our military to remember and thank them for our freedom. Also to celebrate with family and friends. Thanks so much for a chance at these amazing sets. The cards are fabulous and inspiring.

Memorial Day is a day to reflect, remember and be grateful. Men, women and families have sacrificed so much for our country and our freedom. It is not just for past sacrifice but those out there today as well. It is a day for me to remember my dad who gave 21 years of his life to the Air Force and this country.

To me Memorial Day is a day to remember and appreciate all that the people who have fought for our freedoms have endured. My father fought in a war, and even though the war was over many years ago, the effects of it still linger. I appreciate all they have sacrifices so that I might have the freedoms that I enjoy today.

As a child, Memorial Day was always the unoffical first day of summer, a reminder school was almost over. It’s a day to remember all those who’ve served our country past and present, for they’ve given us the ultimate gift of freedom. The CFH Blog hop was a wonderful tribute to all those who serve. Thanks for the chance to win your beautiful sets honoring the troops!

I think our veterans are very under appreciated and don’t receive the respect they deserve. We recently lost our BIL who served in Vietnam. I took my nine year old daughter to the cemetery and we placed a flag on his grave. I want her to remember him and all the soldiers who have served. We enjoyed the day but I also want her to know why we celebrate Memorial Day!

I’ve always considered Memorial day as a day to reflect on and remember the loved ones we’ve lost, and to remember why they gave of themselves so unselfishly. After all, we are here, able to enjoy our freedom because of them!

Memorial Day growing up was always the start of summer, always a BBQ on the wood picnic bench my Dad made, playing a game of baseball with my parents and brother…boyz against girlz of course!, and time to reflect on how great it was living in America, and remembering….now, as I get older, I think about the Family Service Members that served and now watch over us from up above, my Son, Dad & Uncles. We proudly fly the Flag, and enjoy Family, Friends & always the BBQ!

To me Memorial Day is definitely a day to remember loved ones who are no longer with us. But it’s also a day to show our gratitude to every single person who has served in the military, at any time, and in any capacity. They have done so with fervor and conviction and a deep love for our country and our freedom. I am truly grateful.

Memorial Day is about remembering all those sacrifices made by so many for the lives we now lead; to build a country we are proud of and the sacrifices which will be necessary for the life of those after us and to create a better future and country.

memorial day for me means respect and honor for the men in my life that served in the service for our country.
my father was in WW2 and spent his time in the south pacific.
my husband was in viet nam and when he came home they told the men not to wear their uniforms back to the states because of all the demontrations and people who wanted to do them harm.
when he got off the plane in the states people spit on him.
i just couldn’t believe people could be so harsh and vinditive to people who had served their country.
but hope reins eternal and things are better now for our vets. PRAISE GOD for that.

My uncle was at Pearl Harbor-was a survivor, and my Dad went to Korea. Memorial Day to me is to be thankful for the blood, sweat and tears of those (and their families) that fight for America to be able to say “Home of the Free and of the Brave”!!! To put themselves last so that we can enjoy freedom of speech, action and religion! THANK YOU!!!

My young daughter asked me this, and my first honest answer was Memorial Day to me…is a day of rememberance of ALL that have gone before us…that is what I always thought as a young child. As I grew older, I realize the meaning of Memorial Day, a day to honor those who bravely served our country, but I always thought (when I was a young child) that my grandparents, immigrants at a tender young age helped build what our nation is today. My grandma sent 3 sons off to WWII, and raised my Dad alone while my Grandpa worked away from home to support the family. My other Grandparents survived the Great Depression, and also left their mark on the world as well….years later, sadly I traveled through Arlington National as we buried my beautiful niece. (Dependent of Navy Officers)…Although she did not serve in active duty….my Memorial Day is still sort of the same…I reflect on my loved ones…but in the case of my niece, also the many who she lays to rest with…seeing all those miles and miles of headstones….if not for the bravery of so many…we would not be what we are today.

For me and my family, Memorial Day is a day to remember those who died in service to our country. We usually attend a memorial service at our military fort; it is such a moving experience and I feel so honored to witness it. It’s also a day for us to show our patriotism, and since I have four kids, it can be lots of fun with all the red, white & blue decorations and clothes (and and patriotic music in the background). It’s a really special day for us!

Being an Army Veteran, Army spouse, sister to two Army service members (one in Afghanistan and the other in S. Korea) I think about our military daily. Memorial day allows me to give thanks to those who served in the past, many giving their lives to support our freedom and freedom around the world. I think about my parents’ and my grandfather’s service and am thankful.

  25. 25Cindy Holshouser

Memorial Day has always been a time for honoring those who fought for our freedom. This year it seems more important than ever with so many troops deployed to the far East.

  26. 26Mary Duffek

Memorial day is all about honoring those who have gone before us those who are serving currently…Thank you! Our family plans the day together, we enjoy each others company and pray for those we serve. We do the picnic thing too…it’s a day full of family fun.

  27. 27Kathy Kelsheimer

Memorial Day is about appreciation. It seems like there is so much evil and people commit crimes and are very selfish. Contrast those actions to those serving in the military and the sacrifices of their families. Our freedom is certainly not free. How can you begin to thank someone for ensuring our liberty? A small step is encouraging those serving away from their families by providing handmade cards. Thanks for the encouragement to get on the ball and do this.
