Kinkade Gift Box Tutorial
The holidays are fast approaching and with it come thoughts about gift giving. I spent many, many hours this summer canning jams, jellies, salsas and more with the intention of giving them away to friends and family this Christmas. I want my packaging to be as special as the homemade goodies inside but I also need it to be quick and easy. Time is at a premium, especially during the holidays! Here is a gift box idea that is made to fit an 8oz jelly jar and sooo much more! And best of all, it comes together in a flash thanks to some Thomas Kinkade Scrapbook papers.
(2) 12″ sheets of cardstock
Thomas Kinkade Winter Wonderland paper pack
MLM Vintage Christmas Expressions set
Memento Black ink
ribbon
Quickie Glue Pen
Glitter
2 medium large brads
Scor-Pal or other scoring tool
Scor-Tape or Red liner tape
Score both sides of 1 sheet of 12×12 cardstock at 4 1/2″ and 7 1/2″. (Note that the + pieces are the sides and bottom of your box and you will be cutting the 4 outside squares down to form tabs)
Cut along the score lines on 2 opposite sides, up to the first score line.
Next, cut away 2 1/2″ inches of each outside square, leaving 2″ tabs as shown. (save the scraps)
Trim away the inside corners of the tabs as shown. This makes assembly of the box easier.
Add adhesive to the tabs as shown. Be sure to use a strong adhesive like Scor-Tape or red liner tape.
Assemble box.
For the lid, use the second piece of 12×12 cardstock to cut a piece 5 1/8″ by 5 1/8″ square.
Score all 4 sides at 1″
Cut along score lines on opposite sides, up to the first score line.
Cut tabs as shown (this will give you a cleaner looking lid)
Apply adhesive and assemble lid.
Set aside
The Kinkade papers come with images of several different sizes as well as plain accent papers.
Decide on your main image, cut to fit the front of your box. I chose one of the medium sized images in the pack.
Use a Quickie Glue Pen and fine glitter to add sparkle to all the snow in the image.
Cut the plain accent papers so you have 3 pieces measuring 2 7/8″ by 4 3/8″. Adhere those to the other 3 sides of your box.
Add ribbon to the lid if desired. You can also accent with more paper.
Cut a strip of 12″ x 1″ piece of cardstock for your handle.
Add ribbon to the handle if desired
Attach handle to your box, below the lid, using 2 brads. By using brads, the handle can be moved out of the way to remove the lid.
Use some of your scraps to make a tag.
Use a small image from the pack for the front of the tag.
Use Quickie Glue pen and glitter to add more sparkle.
Stamp sentiment inside your tag using black ink.
Attach tag to your handle.
I used different papers in the same paper pack to create a second gift box.
Using the Kinkade papers helps you create beautiful packaging without much work.
The finished box measures 4 1/2″ tall by 3″ wide and 3″ deep. It will fit a bag of cookies, fudge, or any number of goodies.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and are inspired to make your own packaging!
Leave a comment on this post and one lucky winner will receive a pack of Kinkade paper and the Vintage Holiday Expressions stamp set. You have until Thursday at noon EST to leave your comment to be in the drawing for the prizes.

I can even understand these directions. I’m going to have to go to the web site and order some panels. LOVE THEM Can I borrow some of your filled jars?

Awesome box and tutorial, Tracy! Definitely a great one for holiday treats! I converted it to a pdf (with your name on it for credit, of course!) so I can print it out and file it easier. I can email it to you in case you want to post it for people to download later.

Loved the whole beautiful gift bag and of course the great
jams etc. What a lovely gift to receive.
Every year I make the neighbours a goodie bag and try to think up pretty packaging. Well, you have solved my dilemma this year! I shall be making some of these gift boxes. Probably have to put a bag of cookies inside – but next year I’ll be making jams and pickles!! Thank you, Thank you.

Loved this demo. We used it for teachers’ gifts with carmels and toffee inside. This was easy enough for my 13 and 8 year olds to do their own. I love it and wanted to say thanks.
